Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, drug-free therapy that can help individuals of all ages improve their cognitive function, manage stress, and alleviate various neurological and psychological conditions, helping people learn how to control their brain activity. Much like you would workout at a gym to train your physical muscles, neurofeedback allows you to train your brain by improving the rate at which it forms neuroplasticity (ie. new patterns in the brain).
Neurofeedback, also known as EEG (Electroencephalogram) Biofeedback, is a technique that helps individuals regulate their brainwave activity. By monitoring brainwave patterns and providing real-time feedback, we can help train the brain to function more efficiently. This can lead to improvements in focus, attention, and emotional well-being.
*Important Note: Neurofeedback does not require or involve electrical current or stimulation of the brain.
Yes, leaders throughout the medical community are learning more about the efficacy of neurofeedback and the therapeutic role it can play in the everyday lives of people.
To learn more about neurofeedback, we recommend that you check out brain coach, researcher and thought leader Michael Cohen’s website at https://www.centerforbrain.com/
Neurofeedback may be a better treatment option for you if you are looking for a non-pharmacological option (ie. you want to try to resolve your issue or condition without the use of medications).
You can change your own brain.
Training your specific brain waves can have profound effects.
Once applied, the effects start to take hold over extended periods of time due to repetition.
A typical course of treatment can range from 15-30 sessions.
Research has shown that neurofeedback results in changes to the brain, which typically remain long-term....like riding a bicycle.
We look at your condition and you as a "Whole Person" and determine what is the best recommendation for you. Specifically, we want to partner with you and evaluate: life style, nutrition, health habits, and sleep habits. Often times we will order a Functional DNA Panel to determine your personal blue print for nutrition and vitamin needs to address the Gut-Brain Axis.
Neurofeedback has been used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- ADHD
- Anxiety & Panic Attacks
- Depression
- Sleep Troubles
- Chronic Pain
- Concussions / Head Injuries
- Learning Struggles
By learning how to control their brain activity, people can improve their mental and emotional well-being and achieved better overall health.
During a neurofeedback session, a person wears sensors on their scalp that can measure their brain waves. These brain waves are then displayed on a computer screen, allowing the person to see their brain activity in real-time.
The person is then asked to perform a task, such as playing a video game or focusing on a specific thought or feeling. As they do this, they can see how their brain waves change on the computer screen. Over time, the person learns how to control their brain activity to achieve a desired state, such as increased focus or relaxation. This is done through positive reinforcement, such as earning points in a video game or hearing a sound when they achieve the desired brain wave pattern.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL NEUROFEEDBACK SESSION LOOK LIKE?
When you enter the Neurofeedback Suite, we will seat you in a comfortable chair and ask you a series of important questions to help us navigate through your session successfully.
Once these questions are answered we will attach non-invasive sensors to specific areas of your head that will monitor your brain's frequencies.
Next, you will pick a movie or series of pictures to watch as the sensors monitor your brain wave patterns. Each session can range from 15-30 minutes varying from person to person.
Along with the visual part of the therapy there will be sound patterns emitted which serve as a reinforcement or reward for your brain. The goal is for your brain to produce more reward patterns in order to strengthen that particular area of the brain.
Most people report that neurofeedback helps improve the quality of many aspects of their life and health.
